BIOL 599: Climate change and what you can do about it

A 1-credit senior seminar (BIOL 599) Dan taught at KU, and may teach again. The class surveys the empirical case for human-caused climate change, the ecological and human impacts, and then turns to what individuals can do — within or outside their profession — to help mitigate it.

The format is discussion-led. Students lead two sessions each, and many sessions feature a visiting speaker with whom the class also conducts an informational interview — a low-stakes Q&A about the visitor’s career path that doubles as professional-networking practice.

It’s important for students to understand the basic science of the empirical support for climate change, and also to realize they can make a difference!
